After a month off of NEMA action, the guys loaded up and headed to Star Speedway on Saturday September 1st. This was their last visit of the year at Star and with 2 3rd place finished there already in 2019, they were excited to go back. This trip didn’t disappoint!
The car was fast once again right from the get go. Richie started 4th in the heat race. He fell back on the start, but drove back up to 3rd and was running down the leaders.
Richie started 3rd in the feature and quickly jumped into 2nd on the start. The leader was a rocket ship and Richie was trying to keep pace. A caution came out about halfway and on the restart Richie fell back to 3rd. He dogged the 2nd place car for the rest of the race, but was never able to get him and crossed the line 3rd. After post race tech, the leader was DQ’d and Richie finished 2nd.
This past weekend, the guys made the long trek to Wiscassett Speedway in Maine, for a 50 lap race. The guys unloaded another fast race car. Richie was P1 after the first round of practice. He started 5th in the heat race and quickly made his way forward to 3rd. He was running the leaders down once again, but didn’t have enough time to catch them.
Since the team has been on a top 3 finish streak, their handicap has been getting higher and higher and this past Saturday, Richie entered the feature with the 2nd highest handicap. This put him 8th in the feature!
When the green flag fell, Richie rocketed forward passing cars outside and inside. By lap 10 he was 4th and by lap 14 he was 3rd. He caught 2nd place and worked to get by for 12 laps, before slipping past on lap 30. At this point the leader had almost a 5 second lead. When a caution came out on lap 41, Richie had closed the gap to the leader to just over 2 seconds. However, on the restart the leader kicked into another gear, running the fastest laps of the feature and Richie wasn’t able to mount an attack and came home 2nd.
They guys are in great spirits after the last 6 races. In that time they have racked up 3 3rd place, 2 2nd place finishes and a Dash 4 Cash win! With 5 races to go, they are hoping to continue this hot streak they are on.
